Sophia Rusler Bursing
1844 – 1918
Sophia Rusler was born October 1,1842 (or 44) in Baden Germany to Joseph and Mary Anna Rusler. She immigrated to America with her stepmother Margaret (probably) and two younger brothers, Michael and Charles, in about 1854 to meet up with Joseph who had come over in about 1852. I am still searching for their immigration records. Her mother Mary probably died in Germany between 1849 and 1854 and her father probably married Margaret before he left for America. She married Ernest Bursing November 19, 1864 in Stephenson, Illinois. Mr. Bursing was born March 4, 1833 in Germany to Frederick and Charlotte Mestfelt Bursing. Ernest and Sophia settled in Ogle County, Illinois and had seven children: Ernest (1870), Frank (1872), Daniel (1874), George (1876), Fred (1880), Mary (1882), Adolph (1887). The Bursing’s farmed in Ogle County. Ernest Bursing died July 17, 1917 and Sopha died July 17, 1917 in Pine Rock, Ogle, Illinois. They are buried at Saint Mary’s Cemetery.
